Level Up English Podcast improving your mental health episode 302

18 Ways to Improve Your Mental Health

Mental Health is something we should all take seriously and I believe there’s a lot of crossover between language learning and having a healthy mindset.

This was a request from a listener to cover this topic. Although I am of course, not a professional, I do love the topic, so I share 18 different methods that I used to improve my own mental health and bring happiness into my life. I hope you find some of them useful too.

Of course, as always, I mention loads of fantastic English words and phrases related to this topic that you can use in your daily life too.

Summary of the Points

  • Make a habit of going for a walk every day.
  • Practice stoic meditations
  • Talk to someone (therapist, friends, etc)
  • Exercise every day.
  • Go to nature.
  • Take mindful moments to appreciate life
  • Eating healthy and staying hydrated
  • Also quit alcohol.
  • Make some ‘me time’ (yoga, walking alone, going for a meal…)
  • Get good sleep! Good mental health starts the day before
  • Learn new skills.
  • Have something to look forward to
  • Have a clean environment (desk, room, etc)
  • Get off social media
  • Treat yourself like a good friend
  • Consider reducing new consumption
  • Spend time with animals you love
  • Find a purpose
  • Is there anything you can subtract rather than add to your life to create simplicity?

Haha, thanks! As I said, I always feel like language learning (or learning any skill) can be closely linked to mental health. After all, we learn more effectively when our brains are happy. Thanks for listening to this one!

  1. Thanks for shouting me out on this episode (#302)! I was too emotional about the topic (cycling in Taiwan) to properly express how amazing your podcast is! It’s clear, accessible to all levels, positive, and authentic. I love how you share your life experiences and explain vocabulary along the way, making the podcast both engaging and enriching. I’m absolutely head over heels for your podcast. Keep up the great work!
